Porn Star James Deen Is Facing a Growing Number of Accusations of Sexual Assault

James Deen sexual lawsuit assault porn

Porn superstar James Deen gained international fame for his on-screen sexual performances.  But it his alleged sexual misbehavior has recently put the twenty-nine year old James Deen in the headlines. Numerous women in the adult film industry, including some of the industry’s biggest female stars, have come forward accusing James Deen of sexual assault — and even rape in one case.  Deen denied the allegations on his twitter account, but since that time additional accusers have come forward.

On November 28, 2015, pornographic actress and writer Stoya accused James Deen of rape on her Twitter account. Stoya, who had over 226,000 Twitter followers at the time of her tweet, accused Deen of holding her down without her consent and having intercourse with her while said no.  The story shocked the porn industry, in part because Stoya and Deen were previously involved in an off-screen romantic relationship and were even referred to as the Jay Z and Beyonce of the porn industry.   On December 10, 2015, it was reported that the California watchdog agency (OSHA) tasked with ensuring safety in the workplace is investigating James Deen’s production company.  Deen has also recently stepped down as a board member of the Adult Performer Advocacy Committee, which works to improve the experiences of adult performers.  There are not any civil lawsuit at the present time against James Deen or his production company arising from these alleged sexual assaults.

Following Stoya’s rape accusation, numerous other women in the adult film industry promptly came forward to detail their own reports of abuse and assault by James Deen, including the following:

  •  Former adult performer Tori Lux alleged that Deen physically attacked her while working on an adult film in 2011, striking her ‘5 or 6 times’ in the face with his hand after she had explicitly said ‘no’ to performing a degrading act on the set of a porn shoot.
  • Ashley Fires alleged that Deen “almost raped” her and pushed his erection into her anus and pushed her against a sink before eventually listening to her pleas of no a Kink.com set.  She also alleges that Deen later confronted her to tell her to stop talking about the incident.
  • An adult industry writer with the initials T.M. told LAist that Deen forced oral sex on her and then had sex with her at a party in 2009 at The Venetian during the week of the AVN Adult Entertainment Expo when she was 21 years old.
  • Porn actress Amber Rayne alleges that Deen twice punched her in the face with a closed-fist and injured her on set.
  • Porn actress Kora Peters alleges that Deen violated her anally during a scene where it was not scripted.  She alleges that he has avoided Deen and refused to work with him since that incident.
  • Porn actress Nicki Blue told The Daily Mail that Deen urinated in her mouth and sexually assaulted her with a beer bottle when she was staying at Kink.com headquarters.

Several of the allegations against Deen, incluidng claims by Ashley Fires and Nicki Blue, implicated the BDSM website Kink.com, as the site of both on and off-set violations.  On November 3o, 2015, Kink.com annouced it had ended its relationship with Deen on account of the accusations.  Prior to the recent sexual assault allegations, James Deen published a widely-read sex advice column on The Frisky.  His column has now been canceled.  Some adult film companies have also terminated their professional relationship with Deen.  Deen is known to have a passion for rough, BDSM porn, which caused at least one commentator to question whether his passion for such activity caused him to be unable to separate role-play from reality.

It is not unusual for multiple victims of the same perpetrator to come forward after a single victim publicly makes such a claim.  The strength of one survivor of abuse to publicly tell her story truly can give courage to other victims to come forward.  At Farmer Jaffe Weissing, we see that phenomenom on a regular basis in our sexual abuse practice.  Commentators following the James Deen scandal have noted that the porn industry is close-knit and people in the industry are feaful of talking about its problems — out of fear of being blackballed and also because the industry is so marginalized and attacked in so many other ways.  Unfortunately, these are the types of dynamics which present an atmosphere in which it is difficult for alleged victims to tell their story.

Farmer Jaffe Weissing attorney Adam Horowitz is experienced in handling sexual abuse claims in all industries. If you or someone you know has been a victim of a sexual battery, please email attorney Adam Horowitz at [email protected] or call our law firm at (954) 524-2820.
