Did you know that in the United States, there are at least half a million orphans?

Orphans are children living on the streets, in group homes, and in foster care.

Fifteen years ago, Farmer Jaffe Weissing, Founding Member, Matt Weissing, and his family, opened their home to a six-year old boy. John* was removed from his parents’ care as a result of neglect, and placed in the foster care system. No one had any idea how long John would be in their care, or if he would ever be available for adoption. The Weissing’s welcomed him into their family and raised him as one of their own.

Did you know that every day in South Florida, seven kids are removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect?

John was removed from his family home with nothing more than a black garbage bag filled with a dirty blanket and a few toys. At six years old, he could not swim, ride a bike, read, write, or eat with silverware. Upon arrival at the Weissing residence, his body was riddled with infection and it took a few months just to get him physically healthy.

Did you know that when these children turn 18, they “age out” of the system, and often have nowhere to turn?

When John aged out of the fostercare system, he joined 4Kids’ Spirit of Success Institute, which provides a wide array of residential support for young adults when they age out of the system. Today, John is a happy, healthy, contributing member of society. He is almost 21 years old and still refers to Matt Weissing as “Dad.”

John’s life is just one of thousands who have been positively influenced by fostercare organizations like 4Kids of South Florida. His story is why Farmer Jaffe Weissing  chooses to support 4Kids year-round, and especially during the Holiday Season.

There are thousands are children like John nationwide, who need a family to love and care for them; volunteers to support the homes and organizations that foster them; or a simple gift to bless their holiday season. This holiday season, we are collecting toys for 4Kids of South FloridaWe are presently accepting Target & Wal-Mart giftcards for older children at 4Kids of South Florida.
