Diocese of Venice Priest Father Leo Riley Placed On Leave Following Sex Abuse Report

Father Leo P. Riley, a priest of the Diocese of Venice, has been placed on administrative leave and removed from the active ministry at St. Peter the Apostle in Naples, following a report that he sexually abused a child in 1985 while serving as priest in Iowa.

Father Riley is 59 years old and was ordained as a Catholic priest in 1982. He served as a priest in Iowa in the Diocese of Dubuque for two decades. He transferred his ministry to the Diocese of Venice in 2002. Riley attended the University of Iowa, where he graduated with a degree in business in 1978. He also attended St. Meinrad School of Theology in southern Indiana.

We commend the alleged victim for coming forward with this painful story and encourage anyone with information about sexual abuse to promptly contact law enforcement.
